Six World-Class Programs
Sasin's first Master of Business Administration (MBA) class started in June 1983. In 1984 an executive MBA class called Master of Management (EMBA) was inaugurated. In 1987 an intensive advanced management program for executives (Senior Executive Program - SEP) was introduced. And in 1992, Sasin introduced the Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management (Grad. Dip HRM) in collaboration with the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. This program has since been complemented with a Master of Science in Human Resource Management (M.Sc. HRM) in partnership with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) of the USA.
And most recently, September 30 2005, saw the launch of Sasin's Ph.D. Program (Ph.D.). Initially offered in Finance and in Marketing, the Sasin Ph.D. features a first year of courses at Sasin, followed by a second year of coursework at Kellogg, and two final years of research work at Sasin or elsewhere in this region. This is the first—and at present the only—Kellogg Ph.D. program in Asia.
What's in a Name?
Sasin is indeed a name of tremendous pride for faculty, staff and students alike. On December 5, 1987, the name "Sasin" was graciously bestowed by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand on the occasion of His Majesty's 60th birthday. The word "sasin", is composed of two Sanskrit words: "sasa", which means rabbit, and "indra", which means chief. In other words, we are "Chief of the Rabbits", a most auspicious name considering the fact that His Majesty the King was born in 1927, the Year of the Rabbit.
Governance of Sasin
In accordance with the resolution of the University Council, an Advisory Council was appointed and charged with the duty to oversee and supervise the direction and resource requirements of Sasin.
Under the Advisory Council, a Steering Committee with the University President as ex officio Chairman was also established, in order to determine policies, issue regulations and establish curricular criteria.
The Director of Sasin is guided by the Administrative Committee in the arrangement of programs and management of personnel and budgets.
