Expertise:
   The Government Savings Bank is a 93-year-old financial institution in Thailand with $17 billion in assets and a network of 588 branches. As one of Thailand’s state-owned banks, GSB has a mandate to implement socially oriented projects and financial programs focusing on grassroots sectors. Individually and in collaboration with other financial institutions and government agencies, the Bank has provided microfinance services under the People’s Bank Program, the National Village & Urban Community Fund Program, the Asset Capitalization Program, the People’s Debt Restructuring Program and the Community Empowerment (SML) Program.

Since 1991 Mr. Asvinvichit has held many positions in the legislative and executive branches of the Royal Thai Government, beginning with an appointment by His Majesty the King as a Member of the National Legislative Council (1991-92) followed by two terms as Senator (1992-2000). During this time, he sat on or chaired numerous committees concerning foreign affairs, economic affairs, environmental issues and science and technology.

His long list of accomplishments includes:
  • Term as Deputy Minister of Commerce; Thai Trade Representative (TTR), Special Envoy of the Prime Minister and as a Director of the Board of Investment (BOI) ; Director of the National Science and Technology Development Agency ; United Nations Advisors Group on Inclusive Financial Sectors, extending comprehensive financial services to grassroots communities as it pursues the global agenda recommended by the 2005 UN Year of Microcredit
  • Mr. Asvinvichit’s contributions to Thai society, business and politics have been recognized by His Majesty the King in several Royal Decorations, most recently in 2000 with the nation’s supreme honor, Knight Grand Cordon (Special Class) of the Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant.
Credentials:
   Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Thammasat University in Thailand and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California in the United States.
