Work Experience

Q36: Will my summer internships or part-time work during college be considered as part of the one-year minimum work experience requirement?
A36: Only full-time, permanent positions after the first degree are used to assess the minimum work requirement. The internships and experiences gained during college are certainly considered when evaluating a candidate's overall package. While we are aware that international applicants work full-time when attending university, it is preferred that they also present a minimum of one year of work experience after completing the first degree.

Q37: What is the average length of work experience?
A37: The average number of years of full-time work experience for the 2007 entering class was three years. The Admissions Committee looks for individuals who demonstrate professional maturity. We evaluate work experience not in terms of years but the depth and breadth of an individual's position, level of responsibility and progression.

Q38: What is the average age of the MBA class?
A38: At the time of enrollment for the 2007 entering class, the average age was 26.

Q39: I am a recent university graduate and plan to pursue an MBA in a couple of years. What type of work should I acquire to prepare for my MBA degree?
A39: We accept entering students with all types of work experience.

Q40: Will my application be considered if I have less than one year work experience?
A40: We will review every application received, regardless of the amount of work experience. Applicants should realize that quality of work experience is as significant as quantity. The Admissions Committee will evaluate the degree and progression of responsibility, supervisory roles and managerial promise. However, applicants with less than one year work experience very likely will not be competitive in the application pool.

Q41: What type of work experience do you look for in your admissions process?
A41: We seek diversity in the professional backgrounds of the admitted students. No one industry is favored over another. However, the applicant should articulate the value of the experience as it relates to contributing to the learning environment at Sasin and how the experience has developed leadership, teamwork, and maturity, both professionally and personally.

Q42: Does graduate education count as work experience?
A42: While we recognize the value of graduate work, we do not count academic work towards professional work experience.
