Q19: What is GMAT? What is TOEFL? How do I register for the tests?
A19: The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) aims to evaluate the English proficiency of people whose native language is not English. TOEFL scores are required for purposes of admission by colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. The test is also used by institutions in other countries where English is the language of instruction. It is offered year round as a computer adaptive test. TOEFL scores are valid for two years after the test date. You may contact the Institute of International Education (IIE) at 0.2652.0653 for local registration or visit the TOEFL web site at www.toefl.org.

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a test of developed abilities intended to provide counselors and admissions officers with one predictor of academic performance in graduate management school. It is available, year round, at test centers throughout the world. You should plan to register for the test at least one month before you plan to take it. You need to have completed the GMAT test before we can process your application. GMAT scores are valid for five years after the test date. You may contact the Institute of International Education (IIE) at 0.2652.0653 for local registration or visit the GMAT web site at www.prometric.com.

Q20: I had my TOEFL and GMAT scores sent from ETS to the Admissions Office last year. Do you still have my scores on file?
A20: Sasin keeps GMAT and TOEFL score reports for five and two years, respectively, after the date they were sent. If your score was sent last year, and it has not expired, you do not need to re-submit it this year.

Q21: May I submit my application if I have not yet taken the GMAT and/or TOEFL?
A21: You may submit the first stage application while planning to take GMAT and/or TOEFL during the year and subsequently have the scores sent to the Admissions Office directly by ETS. The second stage application must be submitted before the application deadline of January 15 to be eligible for the admission interviews.

Q22: I submitted my application before I took the GMAT. I scored less than I thought and now plan to re-take the GMAT. Would you consider my application based on my new score?
A22: Yes, assuming it arrives before your scheduled interview.

top

Q23: Do I need to take TOEFL?
A23: All non-native English-speaking applicants must take TOEFL unless they have earned both a high school diploma and a bachelor's degree in an English-speaking country. Individuals seeking a TOEFL waiver should include a waiver request with their application.

Q24: Can my official GMAT scores arrive after the application deadline?
A24: You may submit the scores generated by the computer at the end of the test session, but you must follow up with an official report via ETS. If we have not received a score report, you should report the total, quantitative and verbal scores and percentiles from the computerized test. The Admissions Committee will receive the AWA score with your official score report from ETS.

Q25: Can I take the GMAT more than once?
A25: Yes. If you submit multiple test scores, we will automatically use your highest score. However, a retake of the GMAT and a resubmission to Sasin must arrive no later than January 30.

Q26: Can I re-take the GMAT after I have been granted an interview appointment?
A26: An applicant is allowed a re-take if not satisfied with his/her scores. You should plan to re-take the test before the decision time.

top

Q27: If I previously took GMAT, how long will that score be considered valid?
A27: The GMAT scores are only valid for five years.

top

Q28: What are the minimum requirements for the GMAT/TOEFL and GPA?
A28: At Sasin, we do not have fixed minimum scores for the GMAT/TOEFL or GPA. However, the average scores of 2007 entering class are 540 (GMAT), 590 paper based TOEFL / 243 computer based TOEFL, and 3.1 (GPA).

top

Q29: What is the average GPA?
A29: For the 2007 entering class, the average GPA is 3.1; however, there is no cut-off. In evaluating transcripts, the Admissions Committee does not focus on the GPA in isolation. The entire academic history is examined to reveal the rigor of the program, trends, strengths or weaknesses in specific areas, and patterns of improvement. We also evaluate additional work or extra-curricular activities of the individuals while studying.
