Q1: What kinds of Business English courses does Sasin offer?
A1: We have English Language Knowledge courses for people whose English proficiency and fluency still needs development. (Levels 1-4). We have English Communication Skills courses for people at the advanced level who need practice using strategy and planning to create and deliver their English messages: for reporting, presenting, negotiating, persuading. (Levels 3-4) top
Q2: What is the difference between Focused Skill and Integrated Skills courses?
A2:Focused Skill courses work on one skill at a time so you can develop proficiency in that area, e.g. Pronunciation, Grammar or Writing.
The Level 1 and 2 focused skill courses are the building blocks for your language development. The higher level focused skill courses (e.g. reading and discussion, pre-MBA, Professional Presentations, Practical Negotiations and the advanced writing courses) will give you the training and confidence you need to perform and succeed as an MBA student, a persuasive presenter or negotiator, or a writer of business documents. Integrated Skills courses are like a language buffet where you get to develop your pronunciation, speaking, listening, reading, grammar and writing skills while at the same time building your business vocabulary. If your time is limited, you can take a Level 1 or 2 integrated Skills course to work on a combination of skills all at once. After your basic skills are strong, Level 3 and 4 integrated Skills courses will help you improve your overall fluency using all your English skills in a variety of business situations and for a variety of purposes. top
Q3: Can I choose whatever course I like?
A3: You can choose whatever course you like at or below your level of proficiency. If you are at Level 3, you can choose any Level 1, 2, and 3 courses but not Level 4 courses. We do our best to make sure that students study with others at the same level. top
Q5: How can you determine my proficiency in English?
A5: Applicants are asked to take the ELLIS placement test at Sasin prior to registration. The test administration fee is 500 baht and requires about an hour of your time. You can call up to make an appointment to take the test. You may also submit recent scores from any of these tests instead: TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, BULATS, CU-TEP. top
Q6: Will I receive a certificate at the end of the course?
A6: In accordance with Chulalongkorn University regulations, students who achieve 80% attendance will receive an attendance certificate co-signed by the President of Chulalongkorn University and the Director of Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration. The 80% requirement is strictly observed. top
Q7: Will I receive a certificate if I miss class time because of company business?
A7: You will not receive a certificate if you do not meet the 80% requirement even if you were unable to attend because of the requirements of your job. top Q8: Are all courses taught by native speakers of English?
A8: Yes, except for the pronunciation, listening and presentation courses which are taught by a highly qualified Thai instructor. top
Q9: How many students are there in a class?
A9: We try to limit class size to 16 but the Pronunciation, and Professional Presentation courses are limited to 12 and 14 respectively. Writing courses tend to be smaller. top
Q10: Do I have to pass a final test at the end of the course in order to continue on to the next level?
A10: It depends on the course. The Speaking—Listening--Reading courses do include a final test. It is not easy to jump from one level to the next. You should expect to take two or three courses at your entry level before moving up. Your instructor will evaluate your readiness to move up at the end of each course even if you were not tested. We use the instructor’s evaluation in deciding whether you are ready to move from one level to another. In addition, you can retake the Ellis placement test at any time to do a level check. top
Q13: Where can I get an application form?
A13: You will find the form by clicking on Application Details (in the upper right hand corner of the www.sasin.edu website).
