FTCC Newsletter, June '12: Interview: Dr. Adith Cheosakul | Associate Professor - Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration of Chulalongkorn University

What do you do?

I’m a faculty member at Sasin, in the field of management. I’m also an alumnus of HEC. One of my duties at Sasin is to organize the mai Bangkok Business Challenge, which is a global student business plan competition held every year at Sasin. And there is always a team from ESSEC Business School in the competition. I was also very active in our accreditation process 2 years ago, and I advise other universities in the region about accreditation.

Can you tell us about Sasin?

This year, we are celebrating our 30th anniversary. Sasin was founded in 1982 as partnership between Chulalongkorn University, Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Today, we have an MBA program, an Executive MBA program, as well as an HRM and Ph.D program. We also have an extensive Global Exchange Program Network that includes ESSEC Business School, HEC School of Management, IAE, and EDHEC (Lille-Nice).

We have an Executive Education Center that conducts 1-day to 3-week training seminars for executives, and we also have a Business English program. From 2013, we will have an International Learning Center right on the beach in Phang Nga province just outside Phuket, where we will establish our Global Executive MBA program and conduct management training courses for business leaders in the region.

What makes Sasin different?

Sasin is the first and only business school in Thailand with international accreditation, both from AACSB in the United States and from EQUIS in Europe. These are the most demanding accreditation bodies in the world, so I think that’s what makes us different. We also have outstanding full-time faculty and we attract visiting professors from the top business schools in the world, including, this year, Professor Serge Oreal from the University of Paris-Evry Val d’Essonne and Professor Robert Weisz from IAE, University of Aix-Marseille. So our students really learn from the best.

Can you tell us about the Sasin Bangkok Forum?

The first Sasin Bangkok Forum will be on July 8-9 at the Plaza Athenee Bangkok hotel. It’s a forum that will focus on the economic and social challenges that Thailand and Asia face in the coming years. The theme is “Asia in Transformation” and we will have some of the top business leaders, policy makers and scholars participating in the debates and discussions over the 2 days. One of the speakers is Dr. Eric Cornuel, the CEO of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), and an alumnus of HEC.

Sasin has been creating future business leaders for 3 decades now, and many of the leaders at this Forum are graduates of Sasin. I think the Forum will be a great opportunity to discuss where Thailand and Asia are going in the next 10-20 years.
