Interdisciplinary, Applied Curriculum.

Sasin and the Chulalongkorn University Faculty of Engineering work closely with industry partners (many of whom serve on the program’s Advisory Board) to ensure that the Dual MBA & Master of Engineering program is always relevant and is meeting practical industry needs. The program consists of two major elements:

  1.  Coursework (23 courses):
    including the core curriculum of both the Sasin MBA and the Chula Industrial Engineering Master’s and your chosen electives,
  2. Master’s Thesis:
    in your thesis, written with the advice of leading Sasin and Chula faculty, you will apply your theory to solving real-world problems.

The Dual MBA & Master of Engineering program is an arrangement between the MBA program of Sasin and the Master of Engineering program of Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Engineering.

A student in the Dual MBA & Master of Engineering program is a regular MBA student in Sasin’s MBA program and also a regular student in Chula Engineering’s Master of Engineering degree program. You can fulfill two degree requirements within two years because some coursework from one program can also be counted towards the degree requirements of the other program.


Master’s Thesis and Internship

Your Master’s thesis project represents a major portion of the Dual MBA & Master of Engineering Program. The thesis is written with the support and guidance of faculty members and practitioners/industry partners. Your thesis will emphasize the importance of applying theory to solve real-life industry problems.

Your Master’s thesis will give you an opportunity to reflect on and summarize your practical work experiences, either from before joining the program or from an optional internship during your second year of the program, while making an intellectual contribution to the field of operations. Your practical work experiences and/or internship serve as the source of research for the thesis, incorporating both engineering and management issues, leading to the development of the scope and content of your research topic. Upon completion of your thesis, you will present your findings and recommendations to your thesis committee and sponsoring companies.

Class Meetings

The program can be completed in two years, if you choose to take two MBA courses each module (a full-time load). You will earn MBA degree in the first 15 months, the same time as your classmates in the Flexible MBA program who have also chosen to take two MBA courses each module.

If you wish you may take the MBA component of the degree at only one course per module (often called part-time load). In this case you will earn your MBA in 30 months, the same time as your classmates in the Flexible MBA who have also chosen to take only one MBA course each module.

In the following 9 months, you will work on your Engineering thesis toward your Master of Engineering degree. Classes are usually held Monday-Friday, from 8:30-16:30.

The first year focuses on intensive coursework in the classroom.

Sasin Chula Engineering, Dula MBA & Master of Engineering

During the second year, you may take part in an optional internship working on real-world operations problems at the site of one of our industry partners. For the rest of the second year, you will write your Master’s thesis (on campus or on site at the company) and will take a few additional electives.

When doing coursework at Sasin, Dual MBA & Master of Engineering students are fully integrated with our regular Full-Time MBA courses, so students study and work with our regular Flexible MBA students.

Working as a Team

Teamwork is an important part of the course.  You will spend most of your time together in study, and in social and extra-curricular activities.

Many class projects will be assigned to groups of students, rather than to individuals, and will require significant teamwork.

You will typically form groups of five to seven members with diverse academic and/or professional backgrounds. Through the program, you will learn how to work effectively with others, enhance your skills in working as part of a team and develop personal friendships and life-long networks.

Teaching Style

All courses emphasize learning from practical experience as well as from business theories.
Teaching methods will include:

  • lectures,
  • discussions,
  • case studies,
  • presentations,
  • simulations,
  • field studies,
  • and guest lectures from leading industry practitioners.

Much of the teaching will involve case discussions, or experiential activities, where you will express your own experiences and opinions. Case studies will provide you with real-life business problems to analyze and discuss in class.

Teamwork, group assignments, and participation in class discussions are strong features of the program. All classes, both at Sasin and Chulalongkorn Engineering, will be conducted in English.
