Summary: The study of peer learning in startup accelerator programs has received increasing attention from scholars, with a focus on the reciprocal exchange of knowledge and ideas between startups. This research, however, separates the role of the advice-giver from the advice-receiver and examines the learning outcomes of the former. Using three randomized experiments with 119 startups in an online accelerator program in Thailand, the study investigates the effect of providing advice on peer teams’ business plans, with the treatment groups participated in giving advice while the control groups did not. The results indicate that the treatment groups benefited in their business plan performance in terms of idea novelty and business potential. The findings also highlight the moderating effects of proprietary technology and managerial knowledge (MBA degree) on the advice-givers’ benefits. This research disentangled advice-givers’ learning from other peer learning mechanisms in a startup accelerating setting, contributing to the theories of accelerator design and organizational learning.   For more information please contact Khun Nanthapak Pinyo at 091 479 4551, 02 218 4036 or [email protected].
