The Influence of E-Voice Content, Quantity and Sentiment on Organisational Performance

Drawing on data from Glassdoor reviews and objective financial records from Compustat, we examine three dimensions of organizational-level e-voice—quantity, sentiment, and content heterogeneity—across 301 publicly traded organizations over a 12-year period (2008–2019). Using topic modeling and machine learning techniques, our longitudinal analysis reveals that organizations with higher volumes of e-voice, particularly e-voice with more positive sentiment, exhibited stronger financial performance. Crucially, this relationship was mediated by employees’ positive word of mouth about their organizations. These findings highlight the strategic value of social media as an e-voice platform that fosters relational social capital, strengthens internal trust and social ties, and ultimately enhances organizational outcomes. The study offers practical implications for managers, suggesting that cultivating digital environments that support and amplify positive e-voice can serve as a powerful lever to improve financial performance.   For more information please contact +66-2218-4000 ext. 84095 or researchseminar@sasin.edu.
