Abstract: The rising popularity of Boys’ Love (BL) series from Asia, particularly Thailand, in Latin America represents a fascinating transcultural media phenomenon that goes beyond geographical and linguistic boundaries. As viewers in Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America increasingly consume Asian BL content, the transnational nature of this cultural exchange becomes evident. This consumption pattern is characterized by active online engagement, thriving fan communities, and the utilization of social media platforms for discussions and fan-driven initiatives, establishing a unique South-South media flow between Asia and Latin America. At the core of this transnational consumption lies the intriguing concept of cultural diplomacy and soft power, permeating the realms of pop culture, the global market, and even politics. BL series function as cultural ambassadors, providing viewers in Latin America with insights into Thai society, values, and traditions. Through nuanced portrayals of Thai culture and societal norms, especially those related to queer communities, these series contribute to a complex perception of Thailand among Latin American audiences, fostering a dynamic interplay between reality and fiction. The intentional exportation of Thai BL content to Latin America can be interpreted as a strategic effort to promote cultural understanding and appreciation, thus strengthening diplomatic ties and attempting to shape a positive image for Thailand on the global stage.   For more information please contact Khun Nanthapak Pinyo at 091 479 4551, 02 218 4036 or researchseminar@sasin.edu.
