From Classroom to Global Research: 20 Years on the Path of Sustainable Finance for Professor Dr. Pattanaporn Chatjuthmard
Professor Dr. Pattanaporn Chatjuthamard, a faculty member of Sasin School of Management and Head of the Sasin Center of Excellence in Management Research for Corporate Governance and Behavioral Finance, was granted the title of Professor on November 25, 2025 (retroactive to May 31, 2022). This represents recognition for over 20 years of academic dedication at Sasin in the fields of corporate finance and corporate governance, and marks her as the first Sasin faculty member to receive this royal honor. “Receiving the Royal appointment to the position of Professor is the highest honor in my academic career—it’s not just a personal success, but it also reflects Sasin’s academic standards and progress,” said Professor Dr. Pattanaporn, adding that this honor comes with greater responsibility in research, teaching, and mentoring the next generation of researchers and faculty. Throughout more than two decades of academic work, Professor Dr. Pattanaporn’s contributions have gained recognition both nationally and internationally. Her research has been published in leading global academic journals, including the Financial Times Top 50 (FT50) and Scopus Tier 1. She also serves as Academic Editor for PLOS One (Scopus Q1) and as the Article Editor for SAGE Open. The core of her research focuses on sustainable finance, corporate governance, and ESG, emphasizing practical application of knowledge through collaborations with international organizations such as the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Bursa Malaysia, supporting policy development and capital markets at the regional level. In terms of research funding and awards, she has received support from multiple organizations, including a Senior Researcher Grant from the National Research Council of Thailand (2022), funding from the Digital Economy Promotion Agency, and multi-year grants from Sasin. In 2023, the Center of Excellence for Research on Corporate Governance and Behavioral Finance, which she heads, received the Outstanding Center of Excellence Award from Chulalongkorn University. In teaching, Professor Dr. Pattanaporn has received Outstanding Teacher awards for multiple years from both Sasin and Chulalongkorn University, with a teaching philosophy that connects theory with real-world business challenges. “In teaching, I believe that knowledge has value only when it is powerfully conveyed and genuinely applicable in the business world. I design my teaching to connect theory with real-world challenges, encouraging students to think, analyze, and develop a comprehensive vision of organizational futures,” Professor Dr. Pattanaporn explained. Although the professorship represents the highest academic position, Professor Dr. Pattanaporn views it as the beginning of a larger role. “My primary goal moving forward is to create high-quality research that has an even greater impact on the business sector and society, focusing on Sustainable Finance, Corporate Governance, and ESG. I want my research to have real-world impact—research that informs policy and can be applied in practice,” she said. Professor Dr. Pattanaporn also plans to continue developing curricula and learning experiences that prepares students for a rapidly changing world and be a driving force in supporting junior faculty members, and building international networks, so that Sasin can achieve even greater recognition on the global stage. Reflecting on her path to success, Professor Dr. Pattanaporn shares her philosophy: “Success doesn’t happen all at once—it comes from consistency, determination, and perseverance. We must have clear goals, work with passion for what we do, and continually develop ourselves. Most importantly, work with integrity and give back to society—that’s what real, lasting success looks like.”
