Abstract:
In 2025, global cybersecurity spending is forecasted to reach $212 billion USD, spanning security software, services, and operations. Each dollar spent represents a calculated balance between cost, risk, and regulatory demands. Within this critical and fast-evolving landscape, MBA graduates are increasingly finding career opportunities in cyber risk analysis, security business operations, strategy, and product development.
This session explores the expanding role of MBAs in cybersecurity through the lens of one Sasin graduate’s professional journey—from Sasin to leading insider threat operations at TransUnion, a data company handling regulated personal data from over 30 countries. The talk will provide practical insights into careers in cybersecurity and outline the skills needed for success in the field.
It will also delve into the growing threat of insiders—employees and third parties with legitimate access who may accidentally or maliciously compromise sensitive data. In 2024, for instance, the Thai Department of Older Persons lost the personal data of over 230,000 citizens, violating Thailand’s PDPA and demonstrating the consequences of insufficient internal controls.
Attendees will learn how companies like TransUnion detect, prevent, and respond to insider threats using a blend of technical, policy, and behavioral controls. The session will highlight how MBA-trained professionals contribute to both strategic cybersecurity planning and operational data protection in industries built on consumer trust and regulatory compliance.
