On August 1, 2025, over 150 Japanese business leaders gathered at Sasin Hall, Sasin School of Management, for the 4th joint seminar co-hosted by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Bangkok and the Sasin Japan Center (SJC), affiliated with Sasin Management Consulting (SMC). This year’s seminar, themed “Geopolitics and Corporate Strategy,” brought together executives from leading Japanese automotive, trading, financial, and manufacturing firms, alongside government officials, scholars, and media professionals. The event served as a platform for exchanging ideas on corporate resilience, risk management, and strategic planning amid today’s shifting geopolitical landscape. In his opening remarks, Mr. Takuya Morishita, Deputy Director of JETRO Bangkok, highlighted the urgent need for corporate agility in responding to global uncertainties. Keynote speaker Professor Takamasa Fujioka—Advisor to the Sasin Japan Center and Professor at Meiji Professional Graduate School—offered an academic lens on the fundamentals of geopolitics and their long-term implications for business. “It is vital to maintain a historical and strategic perspective to navigate in the broadly right direction,” he noted. The seminar also featured a presentation by Mr. Kyohei Yabu, Senior Researcher at JETRO Bangkok, who shared data-driven insights on how developments such as the U.S.-China trade tensions are shaping Thailand and the ASEAN region. A panel discussion moderated by Mr. Takashi Itoda, Bureau Chief of Yomiuri Shimbun’s Bangkok Office, followed. The session included firsthand perspectives from business leaders on navigating international risks and regional dynamics. The seminar concluded with a networking coffee break, offering participants the opportunity to engage further with speakers and peers. Long lines formed as attendees exchanged business cards and continued their conversations. According to the organizers, this seminar series will continue to provide timely and practical insights to help Japanese companies enhance competitiveness and deepen their understanding of the ASEAN region.
