Meet Our Newest Faculty Member: Professor Daniel Schlagwein
We are delighted to welcome Professor Daniel Schlagwein, who, prior to joining Sasin, was Professor of Digital Work and Organization at the University of Sydney Business School. A thought leader and globally recognized researcher in digital work and nomadism, he will join Sasin on February 1, 2026. His research expertise spans openness, crowdsourcing, remote work, digital nomadism, and other new forms of digital working and organizing – areas of growing importance in today’s evolving work landscape. Professor Daniel brings impressive credentials to Sasin. As Editor-in-Chief of the top-ranked Journal of Information Technology (JIT) and Senior Scholar of the Association for Information Systems (AIS), he has established himself as a leading voice in the field. His scholarly contributions include more than 80 peer-reviewed papers, including 17 published in prestigious AIS11/FT50 journals. He has also been recognized in multiple ‘Top 100 Researchers’ rankings. His work has earned him several prestigious accolades, including the AIS Early Career Award (2016), AIS Best Information Systems Paper (2017), and the ABDC Award for Best Established Business Research Program in Australia (2023) for his pioneering contributions to digital nomadism. He has collaborated with industry giants like BOSCH, Daimler, and LEGO on their crowdsourcing strategies, and has been involved in the launch of Thailand’s ‘digital nomad’ visa and strategy. Passionate about helping students become critical thinkers in the digital age, Professor Daniel believes strongly in innovative teaching methods. Recently, he created The Crypto Game, an experiential learning tool on blockchain technologies. He has been awarded the UNSW Sydney Vice-Chancellor’s Medal for Teaching Excellence. He is also a popular advisor to research students, having received the SUPRA Supervisor of the Year Award in 2023. Outside his academic and consulting work, Professor Daniel leads a nomadic lifestyle and is passionate about minimalism, philosophy, cinema, and, as a former DJ, electronic music. He enjoys engaging in debates about the societal implications of emerging technologies and loves spending time with his family. We look forward to the valuable perspectives and expertise Professor Daniel will bring to our community.
